ABILITIES
SCIENCE & ENGINEERING
As a nonbender, Sokka has used his knowledge and ingenuity to artificially simulate bending on multiple occasions (using rudimentary explosives to simulate firebending, and using his knowledge of air currents to create an illusion to simulate earthbending). He is adept at creating weapons (makeshift or otherwise) out of a variety of materials (notably his space sword crafted from a meteor) and is able to quickly solve mechanical problems on the fly. He also literally invented the submarine.
STRATEGY & TACTICS
Sokka is a master planner. He has a plan for everything and is able to quickly adjust those plans to unforeseen circumstances (as everything usually always go wrong) and kept Team Avatar mostly on track throughout their journey with a schedule and route he put together himself. He also took it upon himself to gather intelligence and maps regarding the Fire Nation while the others were busy mastering bending and devised the invasion plan to strike the Fire Nation on the Day of Black Sun. Using his persistence and ingenuity, he was able to stage a prison break from the Boiling Rock with the help of Zuko, successfully rescuing his father and Suki from the Fire Nation. He is also often able to use his wit to his advantage, using the element of surprise to outwit his opponents rather than relying on pure skill.
ART
Sokka has a natural talent for poetry and nearly won a haiku battle against an instructor in Ba Sing Se. He also loves to paint and has been known to make wood carvings as well as sand sculptures, though whether he's any good at any of them is up for debate. He tries his best and that's what counts.
WEAPONS & WARRIOR TRAINING
While training to be a soldier for the Southern Water Tribe, Sokka became proficient in a variety of weapons, the most noticeable being his trademark boomerang, with which he has shown impressive accuracy even from a blindspot by determining the enemy's line of fire. He is also proficient with clubs, machetes, spears, and his Jian sword. Sokka trained under Master Piandao in the art of swordsmanship and quickly picked up the skill, learning advanced techniques in only a few days and impressing Master Piandao with creativity and versatility. He also managed to gain a firm grasp on blacksmithing in that short time, as he forged his own sword and later a suit of armor for Appa. While Sokka's hand-to-hand combat could use some improvement, he can generally hold his own against most opponents, and was even able to pick up the basics of using war fans while training with the Kyoshi Warriors for a brief time.
SURVIVAL SKILLS
Sokka is a gifted tracker and is adept at hunting and fishing, as well as skinning, deboning, butchering, and basic cooking.
